Prof. Ma obtained his PhD degree in Food Chemistry from the University of British Columbia, Canada.
After working as a research scientist in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for 16 years,
he returned to Hong Kong as a professor of food science in the University of Hong Kong.
He has been the Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Science for 10 years.
He is currently an Honorary Professor in the School of Biological Sciences and
a Senior Consultant of the HKU SPACE Community College.
Professor Ma has extensive experience conducting applied research in food technology,
and has served as consultant to many food companies in North America and Hong Kong.
He has served as member in government consultative bodies including the
Food and Environmental Hygiene Advisory Council and the Midwife Council,
and as Standard Board Advisor of the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre.
He is currently a member of the HKSAR Expert Committee on Food Safety.
